Mark Wood was spotted in the sidelines of the Ashes Gabba Test as he sported the England training kit and a concerning knee brace on his right leg. The English pace bowler gave a massive injury update on his future appearances in The Ashes.
Speaking of his availability, Mark Wood shared that he is looking to feature in Melbourne and will likely skip the Adelaide Test, as his persistent 'knee' problem after the surgery this year, will likely rule him out for the 3rd Ashes Test.
Mark Wood drops massive injury update
For the unaware, Mark Wood was rested for the Gabba Test given his workload management concerns by the ECB, who thought it best to rest him after the Perth opener.
Speaking at the sidelines to 7Cricket, Mark Wood was clinical on his injury. When the host asked whether he has got his eye on Adelaide or not, Mark Wood replied instantly that Melbourne might be a more realistic chance.
"I think there's a chance there, but more realistically I think it's more Melbourne," Wood shared.
Wood further revealed that the doctors have asked him to keep the knee braces on, as he will be needing more time to recover from the toil of the first Test, where he bowled for 11 overs and bagged only 1 wicket.
Wood's absence weakens England?
This update likely writes the fate for the premier pacer of England, who will likely skip the December 17 Test and will appear on December 26 at Melbourne.
This also helps England work out their bowling combinations for their next Test too, as Will Jacks was called into the Playing XI after benching Wood for Gabba.
This also means pacer Josh Tongue might see the light at Adelaide as a support to Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer depending on the performance of Will Jacks at the Gabba and the conditions at Adelaide.
