India Women are all set to face England Women today, July 1, in the second T20I of the ongoing five-match series. The match will take place in Bristol. While fans are excited after India’s massive win in the first match, the big question on everyone’s mind is – Will captain Harmanpreet Kaur return to the playing XI today?
What Happened To Harmanpreet Kaur?
Harmanpreet suffered a head injury during a warm-up game against the ECB Development XI last week. As a safety measure, she was rested for the first T20I of the series in Nottingham. The team did not want to take any risks with her recovery.
In the series opener, stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana led from the front with a brilliant century. Her knock of 112 off 62 balls included 15 fours and 3 sixes. This performance not only helped India post a massive total of 210/5, but also became the highest individual score by an Indian woman in T20Is, breaking Harmanpreet’s previous record.
India eventually won the match by 97 runs, with other strong contributions from Harleen Deol (43) and spinner Shreyanka Patil, who took 4 wickets for 12 runs. For England, only Lauren Bell (3/27) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (66) showed some resistance.
Will Harmanpreet Play Today?
So, is the Indian skipper ready to return for the second game? All-rounder Sneh Rana has provided an update on Harmanpreet’s condition.
"There are positive signs, she [Harmanpreet] has joined the practice session today, she will be assessed and monitored post the practice session," she said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
This means that while Harmanpreet has returned to training, the final decision on her availability will depend on how she feels after practice and how the medical team assesses her fitness
At the moment, there is no official confirmation whether Harmanpreet will be part of the playing XI in today’s match. However, the fact that she has resumed practice is a positive sign.
