Jasprit Bumrah delivered a world-class display of fast bowling on Day 2 of the second Test at Lord’s, turning the tide decisively in India’s favour. He shattered major international bowling record in the process. England, who began the day at a solid 251/4, were left stunned as Bumrah tore through their middle order in a fiery morning spell.

Bumrah first removed Ben Stokes, claiming India’s first breakthrough of the day with a trademark delivery that seamed away just enough to catch the outside edge. But the real highlight followed in the next over, when Bumrah dismissed Joe Root. 

How Did Jasprit Bumrah Trap Joe Root?

Bumrah produced a class delivery to dismiss the well-set Joe Root for 104 runs. At this stage, Root was in complete control of the innings, playing fluently and handling India’s bowlers with relative ease. 

Bumrah's delivery that would eventually dismissed Joe Root was perfectly executed and arguably one of the deliveries of the day. The ace pacer bowled from around the wicket, delivered a fuller-length ball just outside the off-stump.

Root, who had been playing a lot of deliveries off the back foot, was perhaps slightly too eager to score, as he attempted a defensive shot. The ball was slightly fuller than Root anticipated, and it swung inward sharply off the pitch. 

It had just enough movement to breach the gap between bat and pad. The ball brushed the inside edge of Root's bat, before crashing into the middle stump. 

Moments later, Chris Woakes became Bumrah’s next victim, falling for a golden duck. Though initially given not out by the umpire, a successful Indian review revealed a faint edge caught by the wicketkeeper.

Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Pat Cummins’ Record

By dismissing Joe Root yet again, for the 11th time in Test cricket, Bumrah equalled Pat Cummins for the most Test dismissals of the England batting stalwart. But the Indian pacer has now overtaken Pat Cummins across all formats, becoming the first bowler to dismiss Joe Root 15 times.
