Jasprit Bumrah bulldozed the entire South African line-up with a scintillating five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the series-opener in Kolkata. Mohammed Siraj and spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also struck in crucial intervals as India attained early control of the WTC Test.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 1 of the first Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa, as it panned out at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, November 14.

Jasprit Bumrah canes South Africa with five-fer

Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton forged together a 57-run opening stand for South Africa after winning the toss and batting first. After the Proteas saw off the opening hour, Indian paceman Jasprit Bumrah came up clutch with the wickets of both openers, before Kuldeep Yadav deceived Temba Bavuma and Wiaan Mulder as the visitors slipped to 114-4.

Mohammed Siraj also picked up two wickets during his 12-over workload of the innings, while Bumrah polished off the South African tail to claim sensational figures of 5-27 in his 14 overs. South Africa managed to accrue just 159 in 55 overs, with Axar Patel also managing to record himself on the wickets column with the prized scalp of Corbin Bosch.

India inch closer despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal

India lost dynamic opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 12 early in the innings courtesy of a searing delivery from lanky South African paceman Marco Jansen. His partner KL Rahul and experimental number three Washington Sundar survived the remaining 13 overs of the day to take India to 37-1 in 20 overs.

At stumps on Day 1, India finds itself another 118 runs away from the reigning WTC holders.
