Experienced Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah had a memorable outing in the first Test against South Africa. After South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat, Bumrah dismantled the Proteas lineup with a deadly spell, registering remarkable figures of five for 27.

Jasprit Bumrah scalped five crucial wickets for 27 runs. After dismissing Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, Bumrah got rid of Tony de Zorzi, Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj, reducing the Proteas to 159 in their first innings. Thus, he recorded the third best bowling figure by an Indian fast bowler against South Africa in home Tests.

Following his fifer in the Kolkata Test, Bumrah took his tally to 43 scalps against the Proteas in the purest format. Thus, he went past legendary cricketer Zaheer Khan (40 Test wickets vs SA), becoming India's third most successful seamer after Javagal Srinath (64 wickets) and Mohammed Shami (48 wickets) against South Africa. 

Most fifers for India in Tests: Bumrah claims 5th position

This was Jasprit Bumrah's 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Thus, he joined legendary spinner BS Chandrasekhar at fifth on the list of Indian cricketers with the most Test fifers. Ravi Ashwin claims the top spot with 37 fifers, with Kumble (35), Harbhajan (25) and Kapil Dev (23) following him in the standings.

Bumrah's excellent spell at Eden Gardens helped him record his fourth fifer against South Africa in Test cricket. He is now joint-second alongside the legendary duo of Srinath and Harbhajan on the list of Indian bowlers with the most five-wicket hauls against the Rainbow nation.
