India's star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has started his Ranji Trophy 2025 campaign on a high note. The young left-handed batter played a magnificent 173-run knock against Tamil Nadu while batting for his domestic team, Jharkhand.

Ishan Kishan's match-saving knock against Tamil Nadu

Kishan came to bat when Jharkhand were struggling after losing three wickets for 79. However, he still saw his team losing wickets from the other end, and at one stage, they were 157 for 6. But Kishan showed maturity and used his experience to smash a terrific century and take his team's total to 307 runs for six wickets at stumps on Day 1.

The left-handed batter was marching towards a well-deserved double century when he came to bat again this morning. However, he missed the milestone by 27 runs as RS Ambrish provided the much-needed breakthrough to Tamil Nadu. He built a massive 314-run stand for the seventh wicket with Sahil Raj, who was also dismissed earlier this morning on 77 runs.

The game-changing partnership helped Jharkhand reach a respectable total of 419 runs on Day 2. Now it's Jharkhand's bowlers' turn to stop the young and talented batters of Tamil Nadu and provide the team a massive lead for the second innings.

Ishan Kishan eyes national comeback

Ishan Kishan has been out of action on the international platform for a long time now. He last appeared in a T20I match in November 2023. Since then, he has failed to make a comeback in the national team. It was his performance in the white ball format that helped him earn his maiden Test call-up in 2023.

However, Rishabh Pant's comeback became the reason for his exclusion from the Test team. With this majestic knock and consistent performances in domestic cricket, it can be said that Kishan will surely make a comeback in the national side sooner or later.
