In a significant development, India star Ishan Kishan has dealt another blow as the star southpaw has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of the Duleep Trophy. It is a huge blow to the 27-year-old as he was all set to lead the East Zone in the forthcoming domestic event.

Notably, Kishan was at the NCA in the past few weeks, recovering from the foot injury he sustained after a nasty fall from a scooty in his hometown, which required stitches.

The injury had also sidelined Ishan from his India return as the southpaw was the frontrunner to replace Rishabh Pant in the 5th and final Test of the England series, but the selectors had to go ahead with Narayan Jagadeesan for the final Test.

Notably, the six-team tournament is all set to begin on August 28, and Ishan has failed to get a green light from the NCA to take part in the Duleep Trophy as reported by Bhaskar English. Meanwhile, the East Zone has called up Odisha's 20-year-old keeper-batter Aashirwad Swain.

Ishan's last appearance was during his stint with Northamptonshire during County Cricket, where he amassed 164 runs in 2 innings, averaging 82.

The selectors didn't turn their eye towards the players put on stand-by, which also featured Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Here is the updated East Zone squad. Notably, it is the second blow to East Zone's Duleep Trophy campaign as Akash Deep too has been ruled out of the upcoming event.
