Mumbai Indians had a terrible start to their IPL 2025 opener against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings, as former captain Rohit Sharma departed for a duck. Opening the bowling for CSK, Khaleel got rid of the Indian ODI captain, dismissing him cheaply. 

Rohit Sharma Registers A Duck In MI vs CSK Match

The incident occurred in the very first over of MI's innings after CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first. Gaikwad's decision to open the bowling with Khaleel paid rich dividends, as the left-arm pacer got rid of Rohit early in the innings. 

After bowling three consecutive dot balls, Khaleel bowled a slightly fuller length delivery that swung back into Rohit after pitching around the middle stump. As Rohit went on to flick the ball, he ended up hitting it straight to Shivam Dube, who took a simple catch at short mid wicket. 

Thus, Rohit, who was expected to ensure a solid start for MI, left the middle without opening his account. 

Khaleel Wreaks Havoc As MI Lose 2 Quick Wickets

After dismissing Rohit Sharma, Khaleel cleaned up Ryan Rickelton, who was looking in rhythm. The southpaw's departure brought Suryakumar Yadav into the middle. As of writing, Mumbai Indians were reeling at 24 for two, with Will Jacks and Suryakumar batting on 9* and 2*, respectively.
