First a bowling masterclass from the bowling side and then, hard-hitting by Alice Capsey, take England to the top of the table as they stunned Ireland by four wickets.

Good start but late comeback brings England into the game

Opting to bat first against England, the Irish side had a decent start as Amy Hunter (15) and Gaby Lewis (36) took it to the opposition and thumped 35 in the first five overs after which the former departed instantly. Orla Prendergast came and played sensibly with Lewis for the next three but then, returned to the pavilion on the score of 17.

Gaby was the highest scorer for her side but she left too leaving the team in a good position at 80/3 inside 13 overs. Skipper Laura Delany had a short stay at the crease as she lost her wicket too for 12. But, she was dismissed in the 17th over, and between these two wickets, five batters came and went.

Ireland were shattered as after an outstanding they lost and plot and could only manage 105 getting bowled out inside 19 overs. The chief destroyers were Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn with three each as spin proved a big factor in the match.

Alice Capsey takes no time

English side chasing 106, lost Sophia Dunkley who went cheaply for just 4 in the very first over. The match could have been tight but the incoming batter Alice Capsey was in no mood to let the opposition bowlers go without a bang.

In just 21 deliveries, she brought her fifty which was the joint fastest in the World Cup. Taking on the bowlers, she thumped 10 fours and 1 six which proved enough for her side. Danielle Wyatt who was watching her partner at the other end didn't take much time to depart after Capsey left.

The score was chased down within 15 overs, with some contributions from captain Heather Knight and keeper Amy Jones. Cara Murray was the pick of the bowlers with 3/15 in her three overs.
