In a significant development, Punjab Kings have won the toss and elected to bat first against Gujarat Titans in match 37 of the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

Shikhar Dhawan is still unavailable owing to an injury, with Sam Curran leading the Kings. Meanwhile, the Titans have made a significant change to their playing XI, replacing Spencer Johnson with Azmatullah Omarzai.

At toss, Punjab's stand-in skipper Sam Curran urged his troops to put up a spirited performance and stun the visitors.

"We are going to bat first. Looking to put some good runs on the board. Our record here has not been the best. This is the third time we are using this pitch. We will try to put pressure on the Gujarat Titans' bowling attack. That's the nature of IPL. It's such a big tournament; on a given day, anyone can win against any side," Curran said.

On the other hand, GT skipper Shubman Gill revealed that they would've bowled first anyway, considering the track's tendency to favour the batters throughout the game.

"I was looking to bowl first. Looks like it's the same wicket as the last match (PBKS vs MI). Every game is important from now on. We've been inconsistent so far. We are keen to put on our best performances. We would look to keep them under 170," Gill stated.
