Former cricketer turned commentator turned analyst Akash Chopra opined in his latest Youtube video that he does not expect Gujarat Titans to progress this IPL 2024 season as they haven’t been playing quality brand of cricket.

IPL 2023 season runners-up Gujarat Titans have struggled to find footing this year under the leadership of Shubman Gill.

With six points in seven games, the Titans are scheduled to face Punjab Kings later today to keep their playoff hopes alive.

However, cricket analyst Aakash Chopra openly backed Punjab Kings for the upcoming matchup as he feels Gujarat Titans are incapable of advancing further into the season.

"Who am I backing here? I had backed Punjab in the last match and I am backing Punjab only. I have a lot of friends in Gujarat. But they are not playing an entertaining brand of cricket and aren't playing good cricket either. I don't think they are a team that can progress," said Chopra.

He explained his point saying that the team is missing Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami’s services and the combination hasn’t clicked.

"They are missing Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami a lot," he added.

Moreover, the repeated collapses makes Chopra believe that GT haven’t played any entertaining or quality brand of cricket. And at this pace, they cannot move up the ladder.

Aakash Chopra further exposed GT’s over-reliance on the opening pair of Gill and Sai Sudarshan.

"Shubman Gill once again. You can keep both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. It doesn't seem like anyone apart from them will score runs. The team collapses like a house of cards once both of them get out as it happened in the last match against Delhi," he said.

However, he does believe that Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan can make a difference, as the ball might grip Mullanpur’s pitch.

GT will clash with PBKS later today in Chandigarh from 7.30 PM onwards.
