The 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday, May 10.

The fortunes of both teams in the ongoing tournament have been diametrically opposite. While the Super Kings have won six out of the 11 matches played so far, securing the second spot on the points table.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have won only four of their 10 games and are currently at the bottom of the points table. On that note, let's take a look at the likely playing XI for both teams:

Chennai Super Kings

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway

The opening duo of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a major weapon in Chennai Super Kings' arsenal, and the team is unlikely to tinker with this combination.

With 458 runs to his credit in 10 appearances, Devon Conway has been a thorn in the side of the opposition bowlers. Ruturaj Gaikwad, on the other hand, has been no less potent, having scored 384 runs at a strike rate of 148.

Middle Order: Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni

The middle order of Chennai Super Kings is a formidable one, comprising Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and the evergreen MS Dhoni.

Ajinkya Rahane has been in sublime form in this tournament, shouldering the responsibility of the middle order with aplomb. Shivam Dube has also played some match-winning knocks for the team.

Although Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali are yet to hit their stride with the bat, MS Dhoni has already shown that he is still a match-winner, with his ability to finish matches in style.

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana

The arrival of Deepak Chahar has added a new dimension to Chennai Super Kings' bowling attack, which was already performing well despite its inexperience.

The Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been the talk of the town with his lethal yorkers, while Maheesh Theekshana has shown a lot of promise. Overall, their bowling unit looks well-rounded and ready to take on the upcoming challenges.

Predicted Playing XI of Chennai Super Kings

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana

Impact Players:

Ambati Rayudu, Mitchell Santner, Subhranshu Senapati, Shaik Rasheed, Akash Singh.

Delhi Capitals

Openers: David Warner, Philip Salt

Delhi Capitals took a calculated risk by swapping Prithvi Shaw for the English wicket-keeper batter Phillip Salt, and it seems to have paid off.

Salt was the hero of the hour in the last match, playing a sensational innings of 87 runs off just 45 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore, helping his side register an easy seven wicket victory.

So far, he has garnered 151 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 177. The captain of Delhi Capitals, David Warner himself looked in a good touch in the last few matches, scoring runs at a brisk rate.

Middle Order: Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Aman Hakim Khan, Axar Patel

With the likes of Axar Patel, Manish Pandey, Aman Khan, Rilee Rossouw, and Mitchell Marsh in their middle order, Delhi Capitals have a well-rounded batting lineup.

In the last game, promoting Axar Patel in the batting order paid off, and it's an approach that the team is likely to stick with.

Mitchell Marsh has been impactful with both bat and ball in recent matches, while Aman Khan has also shown flashes of his potential but needs to work on his consistency.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed

The Delhi Capitals' bowling lineup is just as menacing, particularly with the addition of seasoned campaigner Ishant Sharma, who has once again shown that age is no barrier to success.

Kuldeep Yadav has been living up to his reputation in the spin department, while Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar have been somewhat inconsistent but have been performing well overall.

Predicted Playing XI of Delhi Capitals

David Warner (c), Philip Salt (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Aman Hakim Khan, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed
