RR Last Match in IPL 2023

The Royals played their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home and suffered a heartbreaking loss on the final ball of the encounter.

Skipper Sanju Samson won the toss, and RR elected to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal got dismissed for 35 off 18, but his opening partner Jos Buttler finally returned to form in some style. The Englishman slammed 95 off just 59 with ten fours and four sixes, while Samson also hit 66 off 38, which included four fours and five maximums. Courtesy of the trio, the home side posted a huge total of 214/2 on the board.

Chasing 215, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi mustered 55 and 47 runs, respectively. Heinrich Klaasen played a solid cameo of 26 off 12 with two fours and two maximums. But Glenn Phillips just came in and struck 25 off 7 with one four and three sixes. Then, with five runs needed off the final delivery, pacer Sandeep Sharma overstepped, and Abdul Samad smashed a six off the free-hit (last ball) to clinch a thriller for the Orange Army by four wickets. Phillips was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brief, game-changing knock.
