The much-anticipated warm-up match between India and the Prime Minister’s XI was marred by inclement weather on Saturday (November 30), at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Heavy rain throughout the day disrupted and no play was possible with Day 1 being officially called off. 

With India set to face Australia in a day-night Test starting December 6th in Adelaide, this warm-up fixture was supposed to serve as their only practice match before the much-awaited Test series. As Day 1 was cancelled that will definitely leave unique challenges that come with the pink ball in day-night Test cricket.

The weather in Canberra on Saturday was far from ideal game of cricket. The morning began with a steady drizzle, which continued to fall throughout the day. As the hours passed, the rain showed no sign of improvement, and the ground staff at Manuka Oval worked tirelessly to cover the pitch and outfield to protect it from the relentless downpour.

In an effort to salvage some practice time, Day 2 of the warm-up fixture is now scheduled to be a 50-over-per-side match. This shorter format is expected to provide the teams with some much-needed batting practice and a chance to adjust to the conditions.

According to reports from Accuweather.com, the Manuka Oval in Canberra has a challenging weather conditions on December 1, as rain clouds loom overhead. The day will start with a pleasant temperature around 24°C, however, the realfeel temperature will be around 25°C. Overcast skies are anticipated in the afternoon, accompanied by the possibility of brief, intermittent showers.

The breeze is predicted to flow in from the North-West at 19 km/h, with gusts that could reach upto 46 km/h. Adding to the unpredictability of the day, there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms developing in the area. Rainfall is expected to be significant, with a 70% likelihood of precipitation, estimated to total around 2.7 mm. The dense cloud cover, expected to be at 98%, raises concerns about potential interruptions on day 2 of the warm-up match.
