The race for a spot in the WTC Final is heating up as the 2025 cycle enters its crucial stage, and India's prospects are now hanging by a thread. After a dominant 295-run victory in Perth against Australia, India finds itself sitting at the top of the WTC points table, but their position is far from secure.

After defeating Australia India has regained the top spot in the WTC points table, with a PCT of 61.11. However, the path to the final is not yet guaranteed. India’s WTC qualification hopes now hinge on winning at least three of the remaining four Tests against Australia.

India's WTC Chances In Jeopardy After Sri Lanka's Win Over South Africa

India still faces a tough road ahead, with South Africa's surprise victory over Sri Lanka today (December 1) that has shaken up the points table and increasing the pressure on Indian team.

With South Africa’s commanding 233-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test of their series. The Proteas have secured the second place in the WTC standings, with a PCT of 59.26. This victory has dramatically shifted the balance of the table and made the race for the top two spots even tighter.

With South Africa now sitting directly behind India, their place in the points tale will put additional pressure on India’s chances. This win has given South Africa an edge and increased the intensity of the competition for India.

What Does South Africa's Win Against Sri Lanka Mean For India?

The Sri Lanka vs South Africa series has taken an unexpected turn. With South Africa’s significant victory, they have not only climbed to second place but also further complicated India’s path to the final.

Should South Africa continue their momentum and win the second Test match as well, India could be forced to rely on external results to ensure qualification. In the worst-case scenario, if India fails to win three more Tests against the ongoing series against Australia, they will have to hope that South Africa falter in their respective series.
