When the lights went up at Vancouver’s BC Place, the Canada Super 60 Women’s League had all the drama a cricket fan could ask for with quickfire knocks, collapses and comebacks galore. In the end, it was the Toronto Sixers Women who had the last laugh as they clinched the three-match series 2-1 over Vancouver Thunderbirds Women.

Dottin lights up Vancouver

If there is one name that echoed through the stadium, it was Deandra Dottin. The Caribbean powerhouse was in beast mode right from the first ball of the tournament. In the opener, she tore the Thunderbirds’ bowling to shreds with a 70 off just 27 balls as she smoked six boundaries and as many sixes.

Her innings turned a 98-run chase into a walk in the park and sealed a seven-wicket win with nine balls to spare. Earlier, Thunderbirds had started brightly with Amanda-Jade Wellington’s quickfire 26 off 11 balls and Ailsa Lister’s 21 ball 28, lifting them to 97/3. But Dottin made light work of it, playing shots that had “vintage Dottin” written all over.

Thunderbirds hit back hard

Game two was a different story altogether. The Thunderbirds regrouped and came out breathing fire. Ailsa Lister’s steady 19 off 13 and Ritu Singh’s 17* off 14 helped them post a modest 75/9 but on a tricky Vancouver pitch, it proved to be gold dust.

The Sixers were tied up in knots. None of their batters got going as Thunderbirds’ bowlers hunted in packs. Vandana Mahajan, Indomatie Goordial-John and Wellington all chipped in with wickets as the Sixers stumbled to 51/6, handing Thunderbirds a well-earned 24-run win.

Amarpal Kaur spins the finale

The decider saw fortunes flip once more. Thunderbirds again managed just 75/9 with Ailsa Lister (25 off 17) and Saee Purandare (24 off 12) doing the heavy lifting. But the rest of the lineup fell like dominoes as Amarpal Kaur (3/4) and Xara Jetly (3/8) spun a web around them.

In reply, Dottin was her usual composed self as she hammed 46* off 29 balls to take her team home in 9.3 overs. Amarpal’s all-round brilliance fetched her the Player of the Match while Dottin walked away with the Player of the Series award for her 122 runs and two wickets across three games.
