West Indies bulldozed India by nine wickets in the second T20I of the three-match series at the DY Patil Sports Academy in New Mumbai on Tuesday. With this win, the visitors managed to level the series 1-1.

Hayley Matthews won the toss and sent India Women in to bat. Things didn’t start well. Uma Chetry walked back early for just 4 runs, thanks to Deandra Dottin, who got one to sneak through. India were already in a spot of bother.

Then Smriti got into her groove and teamed up with Jemimah Rodrigues. The two tried to calm things down. They added 29 runs, but Rodrigues couldn’t hold on. She fell for 16, right when India needed her to stick around.

West Indies were handing out freebies though. Smriti got three lives—yes, three! The Windies dropped her like hot potatoes, and Mandhana didn’t waste those chances. She made them pay big time. A classy half-century, her 26th in T20Is to kept India afloat.

When Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma got together, things looked good. They added a solid 56-run partnership, rebuilding India’s innings brick by brick. Just when it felt like India were ready to shift gears, the West Indies hit back. Both batters fell quickly, and the momentum swung again.

But Richa Ghosh wasn’t having any of it. She came out swinging, smashing 32 off just 17 balls. She turned up the heat, giving India a much-needed boost.



In the end, India finished with 159/9. Not a massive score, but enough to give the bowlers something to work with. Chinelle Henry, Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, and Afy Fletcher all picked up two wickets each, keeping India in check.

Qiana Joseph was the chief aggressor. She batted like she was in a hurry, cracking fours and sending two huge sixes into the stands. Indian bowlers had no answers as Joseph punished every loose ball. But just when it looked like she was about to go big, Saima Thakor came to the rescue. In the seventh over, Joseph got rid of Joseph as Richa Ghosh gobbled up the catch. With Joseph gone, Hayley Matthews took matters into her own hands. She was seeing the ball like a football and didn’t spare anyone. The Indian bowlers got the full treatment. Radha Yadav’s 11th over turned into a highlight reel as Matthews smashed her for four boundaries in a row.

If that wasn’t enough, she took Saima Thakor to the cleaners in the 14th over, hammering three consecutive boundaries. It was like Matthews was playing on a different pitch altogether.


On the other end, Shemaine Campbelle played the perfect supporting role. She quietly kept the scoreboard ticking, smashing Titas Sadhu for three back-to-back fours in the ninth over to keep the pressure on India.

The duo made it look easy. Matthews finished unbeaten on a brutal 85 off just 47 balls with 17 fours. Campbelle, steady as ever, stayed not out on 39 off 26. West Indies Women romped home in style, chasing 159 with 4.2 overs and nine wickets to spare.
