The Indian Women’s team devoured its Irish counterparts at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Young opener Pratika Rawal and middle-order star Tejal Hasabnis played starring roles with the bat after Gaby Lewis’ majestic 92 upfront.
Here’s the timeline of how IND-W vs IRE-W panned out in Rajkot:
IND-W vs IRE-W Highlights: Titas Sadhu, Priya Mishra Seize Early Indian Advantage
Indian fast bowler Titas Sadhu got the opening breakthrough for the hosts in the form of Irish opener Sarah Forbes for just nine. A terrible mix-up between captain Gaby Lewis and number three Una Raymond-Hoey led to the latter’s downfall at 34-2, before leg-spinner Priya Mishra picked up the wickets of Orla Prendergast and Laura Delany in successive deliveries as the visitors slipped to 56-4 around the first 13 overs of the match.
IND-W vs IRE-W Highlights: Gaby Lewis Rescues Irish Ship With Leah Paul
Ireland captain Gaby Lewis rescued her team’s faltering innings by crafting a composed 92 from 129 balls. The 23-year-old shared 117 runs for the fifth wicket with fellow half-centurion Leah Paul, before the latter became a victim of yet another mix-up with the skipper.
Christina Coulter Reilly chipped in with an unbeaten 15 off 26 balls and Arlene Kelly scored a cracking 28 before getting trapped by Indian debutant Sayali Satghare. With Deepti Sharma accounting for top-scorer Lewis with a sharp caught-and-bowled, Ireland conjured a competitive 238-7 from their 50 overs.
IND-W vs IRE-W Highlights: Indian Seniors Fall Short Against Sargent, Maguire
India’s stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana unleashed six boundaries and a six in her fiery 29-ball 41, but the senior opening batter failed to capitalize her start as she top-edged one towards Orla Prendergast at mid-on off Freya Sargent.
Harleen Deol (20 off 32) and Jemimah Rodrigues (9 off 6) failed to sustain their prolific touch from the West Indies ODIs as the two middle-order stars were toppled by Ireland’s teenage spin sensation Aimee Maguire (3-57) in the space of just two overs.
IND-W vs IRE-W Highlights: Pratika Rawal And Hasabnis Navigate India To Big Win
Young Indian opener Pratika Rawal and middle-order batter Tejal Hasabnis doubled the Indian total to 232 after the two cricketers forced forces at a tricky 116-3 in the 21st over of the run-chase. Rawal ended up top-scoring in the innings with her career-best score of 89 from just 96 balls with 10 boundaries and a six.
Hasabnis minted her runs at an even quicker pace, making an unbeaten 53 from 44 balls to notch up her maiden ODI fifty.
While Rawal became the third of Maguire’s three victims of the day, Richa Ghosh clobbered two boundaries in two balls to bring up the winning runs for India with six wickets and more than 15 overs to spare.
