Tim David unfurled yet another run-chase masterclass to catapult Hobart Hurricanes to an emphatic victory over David Warner’s Sydney Thunder at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval. The outcome also marked the fifth successive win for the Hurricanes this BBL 2024-25 season.

Here’s the timeline of how Hurricanes vs Thunder panned out at the Bellerive Oval:

Hurricanes vs Thunder Highlights: Konstas Disappoint As Thunder Rocked Early

Sydney Thunder opener and new fan favorite Sam Konstas failed to light up the Bellerive Oval in Hobart as the 19-year-old was dismissed by Riley Meredith for a sluggish four inside the opening powerplay.

Matthew Gilkes at number three was caught behind by Matthew Wade off Chris Jordan while Oliver Davies was caught-and-bowled by Billy Stanlake for a run-a-ball 17 as the Thunder reached just 82-3 around the 13-over mark of the innings.

Hurricanes vs Thunder Highlights: Warner Carries Bat With Sublime 88*

Amidst losing partners at constant intervals from the other end, Sydney Thunder captain and senior man David Warner maintained his composure and went on to score a belligerent 88* from just 66 balls with seven boundaries. Warner’s swift 34-run partnership with Sam Billings (28 off 15) in just three overs lifted up the scoring rate before the English wicketkeeper-batter was cleaned up by Nikhil Chaudhary.

Chris Green and Dan Christian failed to hang around in the slog overs, but Warner’s finishing act ensured the Sydney Thunder reached a competitive 164-6 by the completion of their innings.

Hurricanes vs Thunder Highlights: Hurricanes Stay Ahead, But Lose Top 3 In Six Overs

Chasing 165 for a win, Hobart Hurricanes stayed ahead of the asking rate from the outset with a couple of huge powerplay overs. Openers Mitchell Owen (13 off 6) and Matthew Wade (13 off 5) both took the attack to Sydney Thunder’s new ball pacemen before their early rampage was cut short by Wes Agar and George Garton respectively.

Nonetheless, the Hurricanes reached 50-2 by the end of the first four overs. Charlie Wakim at number three listed three boundaries to make 16 at run-a-ball before he was cleaned up by an economical Tom Andrews (1-17) at the start of the seventh over of the run-chase.

Hurricanes vs Thunder Highlights: Tim David Seals The Deal For Hurricanes

Still over 100 runs away from the target, Hobart Hurricanes’ number five Tim David muscled 68 unbeaten runs from just 38 balls and formed match-defining partnerships with Nikhil Chaudhary (29 off 23) and Chris Jordan (18* off 13).

After Chaudhary was caught behind by Sam Billings off George Garton at 100-4, Tim further enhanced his run-scoring pace to steer the Hurricanes to a six-wicket win in just 16.5 overs. The hard-hitting middle-order batter smeared four boundaries and six huge maximums as the Hurricanes claimed the top spot on the BBL 2024-25 points table.
