The second and final Test of the India vs West Indies series will commence on Friday, October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi with the match scheduled to start at 9:30 AM IST. After a commanding display in Ahmedabad, India will be looking to seal a 2-0 whitewash while the visitors will aim to save their pride and end the tour on a high.
India
India were absolutely ruthless in the opening Test as they secured a victory by an innings and 140 runs. Their batting depth and bowling brilliance were on full display. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja each scored brilliant centuries while skipper Shubman Gill added a composed fifty to set up a massive first-innings total.
With the ball, Mohammed Siraj shone with a seven-wicket match haul. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja provided excellent support and exploited helpful conditions. Heading into the Delhi Test, India will look to continue their winning momentum and complete a comprehensive series sweep.
West Indies
West Indies struggled to cope with India’s quality and intensity in the first Test, folding for 162 in their first innings. Their openers John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul failed to provide a platform while middle-order batters like Alick Athanaze, Brandon King, Roston Chase and Shai Hope couldn’t convert starts into big scores.
With the ball, Jayden Seales troubled Indian batters a bit but failed to fill the wickets column. Roston Chase was the most successful bowler with two wickets, though his side will need a collective effort from both batting and bowling units to challenge India on their home turf.
IND vs WI head to head overview
India and West Indies have faced each other in 101 Test matches. The Caribbean side still holds a narrow historical advantage, winning 30 Tests while India have emerged victorious on 24 occasions with 47 matches ending in draws.
Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch report
The Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch traditionally features a black-soil base that aids batting early on before gradually turning into a spinner’s track. During the first two days, batters can enjoy consistent bounce and pace off the wicket which will make strokeplay relatively easy. However, from Day 3 onwards, cracks develop, leading to variable bounce and increasing turn.
Pacers can expect some movement early with the new ball, but as the match progresses, spin and reverse swing become key weapons. Out of 35 Tests played at the venue, teams batting first have won 6, those batting second have won 14 and 15 matches have ended in draws. The captain winning the toss is likely to field first.
