Stylish Indian batting duo of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scripted history on Monday, as they thrashed Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup fixture at the R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo. After the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got out, Kohli and Rahul steadied the Indian ship with a sensational 233*-run stand for the third wicket, leaving the arch-rivals shell-shocked.

Besides helping India post a mammoth total, the batters set the record for the highest stand for any wicket in the history of ODI Asia Cup, surpassing the opening partnership of 224 runs between Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed.

Highest Partnerships in ODI Asia Cup History

  • Virat Kohli & KL Rahul: 233*
  • Mohammad Hafeez & Nasir Jamshed: 224
  • Shoaib Malik & Younis Khan: 223
  • Babar Azam & Iftikhar Ahmed: 214

Notably, the high-octane face-off was interrupted on Sunday, with rain arriving at the venue during the 25th over. After the game resumed today, Kohli and Rahul guided India steadily by rotating strike consistently and scoring occasional boundaries. While Rahul slammed 111 runs off just 106 deliveries, Kohli clobbered nine fours and three sixes for his glorious 94-ball 122. As a result, India posted a massive total of 356 runs for the loss of only two wickets in 50 overs.

In response, Pakistan have had a cautious start to their innings, placed at 12 for no loss in 2.1 overs, with Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq batting on 0* and 5*, respectively.
