Keeper-batter KS Bharat, who remains in the scheme of things in India's squad, scored a thumping 100 against the visiting England Lions side in the first of their three unofficial Tests.

Chasing a massive 490 in the first encounter at Ahmedabad, Bharat produced a sensational knock on the final day of the four-day match, where the wicketkeeper-batter from Andra slammed a 100 off 138 balls, which included 13 fours, has brought India A within touching distance of an incredible win.

Bharat managed just 15 runs in the first innings, which raised questions about his place in the Indian squad for the Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam Tests, respectively, where other keepers like KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel have also been included.

With Indian management explicitly stating that Rahul will be utilised as a specialist batter, the competition is between Bharat and Jurel, where the consensus favours the Andhra player, who has already played at the international level.

However, in the limited chances, Bharat has failed to impress with the bat, scoring just 129 runs in five Tests, which include a top score of 44.

As of writing, India A are 426 for 5, with Bharat and Mj Suthar batting on 116* and 89*, respectively.

The first India-England Test begins on January 25 in Hyderabad, for which the squad will regroup on January 20 for a preparatory camp.
