IND vs ENG Highlights: India Bolts To A Record Powerplay Start
Indian opener Sanju Samson started off with a six but his fiery top-order cameo was limited to just 16 runs (seven balls) by Mark Wood. Nonetheless, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma and number three Tilak Varma raged ahead with a 115-run partnership for the second wicket from just 43 deliveries.
Their collective belligerence helped Team India record its highest powerplay total of 95-1, with young Sharma racing to a 17-ball half-century. Tilak Varma, after cracking 24 from 15 balls, nicked one towards Phil Salt off Brydon Carse as India lost its second wicket at 136 in just nine overs.

England opener Phil Salt regained his groove with a scintillating half-century at the top of the order. However, the wicketkeeper-batter kept losing partners at regular intervals to India’s comeback man Mohammed Shami and in-form spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
Shami got the first breakthrough for India with an early wicket of Jacob Bethell, before Chakravarthy (2-25) snared the prized-scalps of Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone in a single spell. Ravi Bishnoi curtailed Harry Brook threat as the visitors reached 68 just around the powerplay period, but at an expense of four huge wickets.

Shivam Dube removed dangerman Phil Salt for 23-ball 55 in the first ball of his spell to strengthen India’s claim in the match. The all-rounder also dismissed Jacob Bethell in his following over, while centurion Abhishek Sharma decorated his evening further with the wickets of Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton to claim figures of 2-3 from his single over.
