Team India walloped their English counterparts by seven wickets in a one-sided affair at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The outcome ensured the ‘Men in Blue’ took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.

Here’s the timeline of how IND vs ENG panned out in Kolkata:

IND vs ENG Highlights: Arshdeep Singh Makes The New Ball Count

Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh removed both English openers, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, within the first two overs of his new ball spell. Claiming figures of 2-17, Arshdeep also became India’s most successful T20I bowler through the course of his opening burst.

The speedster started off by dismissing Phil Salt for a three-ball duck, before besting Duckett with a leading edge as the visitors slipped to 17-2 in 2.5 overs early in the game.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Spinners Varun And Axar Douse Buttler’s Insurgence

England captain and number three Jos Buttler counterattacked with 68 quick runs from 44 balls in the middle overs of the innings. However, the seasoned top-order batter kept losing partners at the other end in regular intervals to Indian spinners Axar Patel (2-22) and Varun Chakravarthy (3-23).

Chakravarthy, in particular, dismissed danger-men Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone within a single over before curtailing Buttler’s defiance. Patel bagged the huge wicket of Jamie Overton while Hardik Pandya accounted for Jacob Bethell and number nine Jofra Archer. England’s number 11 Mark Wood fell short of his crease as the visitors folded up for just 132 in 20 overs.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Jofra Archer Gets Two Key Wickets At The Top

Indian openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma raced to 41-0 around the first four overs of the innings in a chase of 133. Samson himself clattered four boundaries and a six during his 20-ball 26 in the partnership before the wicketkeeper-batter was holed out by Gus Atkinson at deep midwicket off Jofra Archer.

The English speedster also removed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for a three-ball duck later in the same over as the hosts slipped to 41-2 in 5 overs.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Abhishek Sharma’s Six-Fest Blanks England

Sanju Samson’s opening partner Abhishek Sharma kept charging back at the English bowlers despite losing two early wickets in the run-chase. The firebrand opener launched eight sixes and five boundaries in his enterprising knock of 79 runs from just 34 deliveries.

Abhishek shard 84 runs for the third wicket with unbeaten Tilak Varma (19* off 16) before finding Harry Brook near the boundary line off Adil Rashid at the brink of the finishing line. Varma and senior man Hardik Pandya shrugged off the remaining runs together as Team India romped to a belligerent seven-wicket victory in just 12.5 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
