Varun Chakravarthy celebrated his 50th IPL game with a ‘Player of the Match’ performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The cricketer led KKR’s bowling charge against Virat Kohli and co., to sink the hosts by 21 runs in front of a packed Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

After the match, Chakravarthy talked about the challenges of bowling difficult overs and described the improvements he made to his bowling after his expensive spell in the previous game.

Varun Chakravarthy says he appreciates Nitish Rana’s confidence in him

Varun Chakravarthy was chosen as ‘Player of the Match’ over Jason Roy and Nitish Rana. While Roy clubbed a 29-ball 56 at the top of the order in the KKR innings, captain Rana unleashed a thunderous 21-ball 48 to charge up the KKR score to 200.

However, Chakravarthy’s four-over spell during the run-chase made a bigger impact in the context of the game. The ace spinner claimed three wickets, including that of Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik while giving away just 27 runs off his four overs.

After the match, he reflected on his previous performance against CSK where he conceded 49 and said he focused on accuracy this time around. He also added that he was not looking to apply variations to his bowling.

“Last match I went for 49 and this match I did well. That's how crazy life is. More focused on accuracy rather than more variations. I didn't want to add more variations,”

Chakravarthy credited his KKR skipper for giving him the difficult overs of the innings. He also dedicated his match-winning performance to his new born son and wife.

“I like that challenge (to bowl the difficult overs) and Nitish is giving the ball whenever he wants me to do the job, I am liking it. I'd like to credit this to my new born son, still not able to see him, I'd like to dedicate it to him and my wife.”

The 31-year-old will now turn up for his side in their next fixture, i.e., a home game against defending champions Gujarat Titans on April 29.
