India Women's team ended their calendar year 2025 with an emphatic 5-0 T20I series win over neighbours Sri Lanka after clinching the fifth and final T20I in Thiruvananthapuram by 15 runs. Just like their previous assignment of the World Cup, one of the key figures of this series win was Deepti Sharma, who finished as the leading wicket-taker of the series with five wickets in four innings.
As the teams collided in Thiruvananthapuram, India added 175/7 in their 20 overs and managed to defend it rather comfortably, thanks to the brilliant start to the second innings from Deepti, who took a blinder to dismiss the dangerous Chamari Athapaththu on 2(5), before coming back for her second spell to trap Nilakshika Silva lbw at a crucial juncture when India needed to suffocate the Lankans after a 79-run partnership.
With this wicket just four days after completing the landmark of 150 WT20I wickets, Deepti went past Megan Schutt's tally of most wickets in the format and became the undisputed leading wicket-taker.
Most wickets in WT20Is
1. Deepti Sharma (IND) - 152* in 130 innings
2. Megan Schutt (AUS) - 151 in 122 innings
3. Henriette Ishimwe (RWA) - 144 in 111 innings
4. Nida Dar (PAK) - 144 in 142 innings
5. Sophie Ecclestone (ENG) - 142 in 100 innings
The off-spinner ends the 2025 calendar year with 14 WT20I wickets in 9 innings, just one behind Shree Charani's 15 in 10 innings. She also picked up the Player of the Tournament in the recent World Cup and got 39 ODI wickets, which is the most for any player in the year and also scored some crucial runs whenever the team needed her to step up.
She also finishes 2025 as world number 1 WT20I bowler, number 3 WT20I all-rounder, while also featuring in the top-5 of WODI bowling and all-rounder rankings.
