England Women pulled off a thrilling 4-wicket win over Bangladesh Women in match 8 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, chasing down a challenging total of 179 in 46.1 overs.

The match showcased some impressive performances with both bat and ball, but it was England’s balanced attack that ultimately sealed the victory.

Bangladesh crumble despite Sobhana Mostary’s valiant half-century

England Women won the toss and invited Bangladesh Women to bat first on the tricky pitch of Guwahati. However, the Tigresses got 178 all out in 49.4 overs, with small contributions from several players, but no one was able to play a truly big innings.

Rubya Haider gifted her wicket away on just 4 runs, followed by Sharmin Akhter, who wasted a start of 30 off 26 balls at a strike rate of 115.38.

Sobhana Mostary contributed a valuable 60 off 108 balls, keeping the innings together in middle overs, and Shorna Akter scored 10 runs before getting out.

Unfortunately for Bangladesh, wickets fell at regular intervals, and despite some resistance from Fahima Khatun (7 runs) and Nahida Akter (1 run), they were unable to move beyond 178.

England's bowlers were tight and exerted relentless pressure. Sophie Ecclestone took the lead by claiming 3 wickets for 42 runs, followed by 3 wickets for Charlie Dean, and 2 wickets by Linsey Smith, keeping Bangladesh batters on the back foot throughout the match.

Heather Knight single-handedly guided England to an inspiring win

In reply, England’s chase had a shaky start as Amy Jones fell early for a duck, but Tammy Beaumont steadied the innings with a quick 17 off 20 balls.

Captain Heather Knight took charge of the innings nicely and soaked up the pressure. She remained unbeaten on 79 off 111 deliveries, while Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 32 runs to take England to the halfway stage.

The middle order comprising Emma Lamb (11) and Alice Capsey (20) performed as required to sustain the chase. Knight was determined and ensured to stay on the crease until her team crossed the finish line.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, meanwhile, did provide resistance. Fahima Khatun troubled England’s top order with 3 wickets, and Marufa Akter struck twice early on, but England’s calm and steady batting ensured they crossed the target in 46.1 overs with 4 wickets remaining.

Extras also played a minor but crucial role, with England benefiting from 8 wides in the innings.

With that, England jumped to the top of the points table with 4 points in 2 games. Bangladesh slipped to 4th spot with 2 points in 2 matches.
