Bangladesh showcased an impressive all-round display to secure a victory over Ireland by an innings and 47 runs in the opening Test held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The home team excelled in every aspect of the game, displaying their batting strength and spin bowling skills to conclude the match within four days.

Ireland bowled out for 286 in the first inning

Ireland began the Test on a shaky note after opting to bat. Captain Andrew Balbirnie fell for a duck in the very first over, trapped lbw by Hasan Mahmud.

Paul Stirling and Cade Carmichael then steadied the innings with a bright partnership of 96. Stirling played positively for his 60, while Carmichael showed patience with a well-made 59.

However, once Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the stand, Ireland’s innings slowly slipped away. Regular wickets followed as Curtis Campher (44) and Lorcan Tucker (41) tried to rebuild.

But Bangladesh’s spinners kept tightening the grip. Mehidy finished with three wickets, while Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam took two each, bowling Ireland out for 286.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy unleashed a career-best inning of 171

Bangladesh’s reply was nothing short of dominant. Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam set the tone with a superb 168-run stand.

Joy was the standout performer, showing excellent temperament on his way to a career-best 171 off 286 balls.

Shadman supported him with a fluent 80. After the openers, Mominul (82) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (100) kept the scoreboard moving with another strong partnership.

Bangladesh crossed 500 with ease as Litton Das added a quickfire 60. Although Matthew Humphreys fought hard for Ireland with a five-wicket haul, Bangladesh’s massive total of 587/8 declared left the visitors under immense pressure.

Bangladesh registers landslide innings victory

Trailing by 301 runs, Ireland needed a strong start in the second innings. Paul Stirling once again looked fluent and scored 43, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam used the helpful conditions brilliantly, breaking partnerships every time Ireland tried to settle.

Andy McBrine offered resistance with a gritty 52, and cameos from Jordan Neill (36) and Barry McCarthy (25) added some late fight.

But the battle was uphill, and the pressure was too high. Taijul took three wickets, Murad picked up four, and Rana chipped in with two.

Ireland were eventually bowled out for 254, handing Bangladesh a well-deserved innings and 47-run victory.

With that landslide win, Bangladesh have gained a 1-0 lead in the two-game Test series.
