England captain Harry Brook had a magnificent start to the ODI series against New Zealand, as he clobbered a belligerent hundred in the opening encounter at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. England, after being put into bat first, were in tatters, losing half of their side with just 33 runs on the board. However, Brook emerged as England's one-man army, avoiding an evident humiliation with one of the greatest knocks of his career.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, New Zealand had a clinical start to the game, with Zak Foulkes and Matt Henry reducing England to 56 for six in 11.3 overs. However, Harry Brook spoiled the party for the hosts, forming valuable stands with the tail-enders and eventually bringing up his second ODI hundred. 

While Overton got out for 46, Brook refused to give up, ensuring England went past the 200-run mark. Here is the complete list of records that Brook made with the outstanding knock against New Zealand. 

Brook completes 1000 ODI runs in 33 innings

Harry Brook had 995 ODI runs to his name before the first ODI against New Zealand. Thus, his hundred at Bay Oval helped Brook bring up 1000 runs in the format. He took 33 innings to achieve the elite milestone. 

2nd highest ODI score for England vs NZ in New Zealand

Brook hammered 135 runs in just 101 balls, recording the second highest individual score for England against the BlackCaps on New Zealand soil. He needed just four more runs to go past Jonny Bairstow on the list; however, Mitchell Santner relieved the hosts from his carnage by dismissing him in the 36th over. 

Joint most hundreds for England in New Zealand across formats

Harry Brook's stunning century at Bay Oval is his fourth hundred against New Zealand in their backyard. Thus, he equalled Joe Root for the joint-most centuries against the BlackCaps across formats on New Zealand soil. Overall, he is only behind Jacques Kallis (5) on the list of batters with the most international hundreds in New Zealand. 

1000 runs against New Zealand across formats

Harry Brook's hundred in the first ODI also helped him complete 1000 runs against New Zealand across formats. Overall, he became the 19th English cricketer to attain the feat. 

4th most sixes in a single ODI innings for England

Harry Brook smashed eleven sixes en route to a blistering knock against New Zealand. His six-hitting mayhem placed him at fourth on the list of England batters with the most sixes in an ODI innings. Eoin Morgan tops the chart with 17 maximums, while Jos Buttler claims the second as well as third place with 14 and 12 sixes in an innings.
