After suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the opening contest of the WPL 2026 against RCB, the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, will collide against the former three-time runners-up, Delhi Capitals. It will be the battle between the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur and the young gun, Jemimah Rodrigues, who has been named the DC captain.

Mi had the game in the palm of their hands before the team decided to self blow as Nadine de Klerk snatched the game from the jaws of defeat and scored 18 runs in the last four balls of the match to take RCB home.

MI will be aiming to get back to winning ways, while DC, under the leadership of Rodrigues, will be looking to start their WPL campaign with a win over a strong MI team. Ahead of the blockbuster clash, we take a look at what transpired at the toss.

DC Vs MI: WPL toss update

Delhi Capitals won the toss and new captain, Jemimah Rodrigues elected to field first on a wicket that would stay the same for the entirety of 40-overs.

Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp and Chinelle Henry will add overseas firepower to the Capitals’ line-up.

For MI, Harmanpreet Kaur has made one change - Saika Ishaque is dropped and a debut cap is handed to Triveni Vasistha. Ishaque was touted as MI's trump card, but after an average game against RCB, she no longer gets a place in the XI.

Who holds the advantage after toss?

As witnessed last night, chasing became easier, and that is the reason why Rodrigues had no hesitation in electing to bowl first. Under lights, the ball comes onto the bat nicely, and with dew coming later in the innings, the bowling team will find it hard to grip the ball. Hence, after the toss, DC holds the advantage.
