After registering a clinical 2-1 series victory over South Africa, India are preparing to lock horns with New Zealand in three ODIs on home soil. The Shubman Gill-led team will face the BlackCaps in the first ODI at BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara, on Sunday. And it's needless to say, all eyes will once again be on Virat Kohli, who is expected to play a significant role with the bat for the home side. 

Virat Kohli enjoyed stellar success in the ODI series against South Africa, amassing 302 runs across three innings at a superb average of 151. He also had a dream Vijay Hazare Trophy return, scoring 208 runs in two matches and showcasing red-hot form before the New Zealand ODIs.

Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar is India's most successful ODI batter against New Zealand, with 1750 runs to his name. So, if Virat Kohli scores 94 runs in the upcoming three-match series, he will overtake Tendulkar to become India's highest run-getter against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli has the joint-most hundreds for India against New Zealand in ODI cricket. While Sachin Tendulkar is India's most successful batter against New Zealand with 3345 international runs, Virat Kohli is second on the list with 2927 runs under his belt. So, if he scores 73 runs in the upcoming series, Kohli will become the second Indian batter to register 3000 international runs against New Zealand. 

Most international hundreds vs NZ: Virat Kohli could claim the top spot

Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Joe Root have nine international hundreds against New Zealand. Interestingly, Virat Kohli also has nine tons to his name, and if he scores a century in the three-match ODI series, the Indian batting maestro will surpass these three cricketers on the list of batters with the most international centuries against New Zealand. 

Most runs in international cricket: Virat Kohli to enter 28000-run club

Virat Kohli is second on the list of most successful batters of all time, having amassed 27975 runs across three formats. Thus, he needs only 25 runs to become the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to complete 28000 runs in international cricket.
