The newest acquistion for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Sherfane Rutherford, scored a magnificent century in the 1st ODI and helped his team defeat Bangladesh in a close-fought contest on Sunday.

The home side were taken to the cleaners with the ball in hand, but Sherfane Rutherford showed his class and coming in the middle-order, he slammed a brilliant hundred as the Windies took a 1-0 lead in the series.

After winning the second Test match, Bangladesh were riding high on confidence and that was reflected in their game as the Tigers looked sharp with the bat and the assault was led by Tanzid Hasan, who scored a run-a-ball 60 to lay a strong platform for the middle-order batters.

While others failed around him, the talented batter stood tall and scored vital runs for the side. In the middle-order, despite playing a slow knock, Mehidy Hasan guided Bangladesh to a strong total.

The all-rounder scored 74 off 101 balls as the run-rate dipped, but the stand-in skipper made sure that the Tigers breach a strong score to challenge the home side.

West Indies, in reply lost three quick wickets and were staring at an embarrassing defeat before Shai Hope joined hands with Rutherford as the duo steered Windies out of a precarious situation.

They added 99 runs for the 4th wicket as both the batters played with aggression and pushed Bangladesh on the back-foot. Rutherford was severe on the Tigers as he smacked a quick-fire 113 off just 80 deliveries, while Hope scored 86 off 88 balls.

The icing on the cake was provided by Justin Greaves, who remained unbeaten at 41 off 31 and steered the team to a memorable win.
