It won't be an understatement to say that the Indian batters had a disaster-class Vs Australia in the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide. It was almost as if they threw their towels without putting up a valiant fight.
The Indian side outplayed Australia in Perth, but in Adelaide they were outmatched and suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat against Pat Cummins' team. A lot of blame should go to the senior batters in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who failed to step up when the team needed them. Hence, in the next Test, India should move away from them and play a different lineup to beat the Aussies.
Persist with Jaiswal, KL Rahul at the top
Despite twin failures in the Adelaide Test, India should persist with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul as their openers. The duo did extremely well in the Perth Test, adding 201 runs in the second innings and should be given more confidence.
Drop Virat, Rohit, play youngsters instead
Virat Kohli scored a brilliant ton in the second innings at Perth, but when the matters were tough, he became a walking wicket. The same was the case with Rohit Sharma, who looked clueless in front of the moving Pink-ball.
Instead of these two players, India should bring in Dhruv Jurel, who didn't do anything wrong in the Perth Test match. Sarfaraz Khan could also be brought back in, with Rishabh Pant batting at number 6.
The Washington Sundar Vs R Ashwin dilemma
R Ashwin played in Adelaide and didn't do much with the bowl and also with the bat. Interestingly, the last time India played at Gabba, Sundar was pivotal in their win and India should go ahead with him. Plus, Sundar's ability to generate overspin off the surface will benefit India more in Brisbane.
Trust the same pace attack for the Gabba Test
Jasprit Bumrah is a no brainer, and Mohammed Siraj should also get in a place in the playing XI. There were doubts over Harshit Rana's place for the next Test, but Gabba's extra pace and bounce will suit his style of bowling and hence, India should play him and go in with the same pace trio.
India's likely playing XI without Rohit, Kohli
Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Rishabh Pant (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah (c), Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj.
