In the first ODI between West Indies and Bangladesh at Warner Park on December 8, Shai Hope, the West Indies skipper, put on a show with his brilliant batting. The hosts were chasing a target of 295 runs set by Bangladesh. Despite losing early wickets, Hope, along with Sherfane Rutherford, steadied the innings and took charge against the Bangladeshi bowling attack.

The highlight of Hope's innings came in the 19th over when he smashed a massive 90-meter six off Rishad Hossain. The delivery was short and spinning away, but Hope skillfully rocked back and pulled it over deep mid-wicket for a spectacular maximum. It was a textbook example of using the crease effectively.

Hope eventually departed after a well-crafted knock of 86 runs off 88 balls, including four sixes and three boundaries. His innings laid the foundation for a solid chase.

Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 50, while Jaker missed his fifty by just two runs, pushing Bangladesh to a solid total.

In response, Windies started their chase shakily, losing Brandon King (9) and Evin Lewis (16) early. Shai Hope and Keacy Carty worked to rebuild the innings with a steady partnership before Carty was dismissed for 21.

Sherfane Rutherford joined Hope and brought stability despite taking a few hits from short balls. The duo was nearing a century partnership when Hope was dismissed for 86, leaving Rutherford to take charge.

Rutherford shifted gears in the latter half of the innings, scoring his maiden ODI century (113 runs). His aggressive approach brought the required run rate under control, and although he fell with just 7 runs needed, Justin Greaves ensured the chase was completed with 14 balls to spare.
