India came crashing down in the Pink-Ball Test at Adelaide after witnessing the highs at Perth. The team was confident heading into the day-night affair, but that confidence was short lived as Australia outplayed Rohit Sharma's men across departments to inflict a 10-wicket loss.
The experienced Indian batters had no answer for the magic of the Aussie pacers and barring Bumrah, the bowlers lacked the cutting-edge against a rampant Travis Head, who scored a magical hundred.
The series is evenly poised at 1:1 and the third Test is just a few days away, and before the game, we look at 3 mistakes India need to rectify to beat Australia at Gabba, Brisbane.
Batters need to shoulder responsibility
It won't be an understatement to say that India's batting was horrendous in the Adelaide Test. All the big names including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant failed to deliver. At times, the likes of Scott Boland, Pat Cummins and Mitch Starc made them look clueless, and the only shining light for the Indian team was the form of Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The all-rounder was India's top run-getter in both the innings, but to beat the Aussies at the Gabba, the entire batting unit needs to regroup and get back amongst runs, just to ease the pressure on young Nitish.
Solve the Travis Headache problem
Time and again, Travis Head has stood like a brick wall between India and a win. It happened in the WTC finals, it happened in the 50-over World Cup and now once again in the Adelaide Test.
Australia lost three early wickets, but Head played a counter-attacking knock and scored a brilliant hundred to push India on the back-foot. Ahead of the Gabba Tests, India need to find a soluton to dismiss him early. No way can Head play more than 20 balls, because if he does, a century is almost guaranteed.
Support Bumrah from the other end
In the Adelaide Test match, it was only Jasprit Bumrah who really tried hard to deliver the goods, the rest of the attack wasn't threatening at all. India cannot make the same mistake in the next game and the others need to chip in as well.
The rest of the Indian bowlers allowed Australia to score freely in their first innings and it eased the pressure on them. The bowling needs to be tight so as to put the pressure on the Aussie batters. Bumrah cannot bowl from both the ends, hence, he needs the others to step up and compliment him.
