Rains interrupted England’s chase on Day 5 of the Headingley Test, but not before a dramatic moment that captured attention. It was Gautam Gambhir’s furious, puzzled and frustrated reaction in the Indian dressing room after Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped yet another catch, his fourth in the match, this time gifting Ben Duckett a crucial reprieve.

Gambhir Unhappy With Jaiswal's Laid-Back Effort

The incident occurred during the 39th over of England’s second innings when Mohammed Siraj induced a mistimed pull shot from Duckett. Yashasvi Jaiswal, running in from square-leg, got under the ball but spilled it, much to the visible frustration of Siraj.

Cameras quickly panned to the Indian camp where Gambhir, sat in disbelief, clearly disappointed. The veteran's grumpy face, slow head shake, and eventual turn away from the field summed up the mood in the Indian camp.

This wasn’t Jaiswal’s first miss in the match. The young opener has been unusually poor in the field throughout this Test, dropping multiple chances at key moments, three of them off Bumrah's bowling alone. His fielding lapses have allowed England’s batters, particularly Duckett, to make the most of their chances.

Ben Duckett Capitalizes On His Lifeline!

Duckett capitalised the opportunity in style. He reached his century off just 122 balls, continuing England’s aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach. His unbeaten 105 off 126 balls, including 14 boundaries, kept the hosts on track in their 371-run chase. Alongside Zak Crawley (59* off 121), Duckett took England to 181/0 before rain stopped play midway through the second session.

The partnership between Duckett and Crawley stands at 181 runs, already the highest opening stand of the match. India’s bowling attack looked flat, with none of the bowlers, Siraj, Bumrah, or the spinners, able to break through.

With 190 runs needed for victory and 55.1 overs still remaining in the day, England looked firmly in command before rain brought an abrupt halt to the play.
