'Forever 20', Siraj Pays Tribute To Diogo Jota After Jamie Smith's Wicket

Mohammed Siraj was seen celebrating with a unique gesture after he picked up the wicket of Jamie Smith on the second day of the Lord's Test. The Indian pacer signalled 20 with is fingers and looked up at the sky.

Notably this is a part of a tribute the sportsperson are paying to the late footballer, Diogo Jota. The Liverpool forward died on 3rd July, 2025 after he and his brother suffered a car accident in Cernadilla, Spain.

Who Was Diogo Jota?

For the unversed Diogo Jota was a promising forward from Portugal, who was gradually building his own legacy. Playing forward Jota was an inevitable part of any team that he played for. At the time of his demise he was representing Liverpool in the English Premier League. 

It is suspected that the footballer was a victim of speeding that led to his unfortunate demise. Notably, Andre Silva, Jota's brother also lost his life in the tragic accident.

Siraj's Connection With Football

Mohammed Siraj is a football fan and that could be seen as he celebrates with Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'Siuuu' after picking up a wicket. The fact that he was seen paying tribute to Jota is expected, given his interest in football.

Notably, not only Siraj, footballers and sportsperson across the world have paid tribute for the promising Portuguese talent that the world lost.

Position Of The Match

Coming back to the match, England won the toss and opted to bat first during the game. Joe Root powered the innings for the home team scoring a century. 

However, Jasprit Bumrah led the comeback for India on Day 2 of the match. The ace pacer picked up five wickets in the first innings and ensured that the visitors were able to restrict England to a manageable total. England were bundled at 387 in the first innings of the game.
