India’s Test captain Shubman Gill was dismissed on just 8 off 16 balls in the third inning of the Headingley Test against England. In the first hour of Day 4, Gill got bowled by Brydon Carse, and fans weren’t happy with his early dismissal.
On Day 3, India bowled out England for 465 runs and took a 6-run marginal lead. After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan on Day 3, Gill and KL Rahul walked out to bat in the first session of Day 4.
The weather had changed in Headingley as overcast conditions prevailed with strong winds. Indian batters were certainly in for a challenging first hour.
Shubman Gill Trolled For Cheap Dismissal Vs England
Expectations from Indian skipper Shubman Gill on Day 4 were high as he scored a century in the first inning. However, England pacer Brydon Carse struck with a sharp delivery that nipped back in off the seam, catching Gill off guard.
Gill attempted a cut shot to a delivery that was too full and too close to the body, resulting in a thick inside edge that cannoned into the stumps. It was a lapse in judgement from the Indian skipper, who looked rooted to the crease and was cramped for room.
He walked off with a dejected expression, knowing he had thrown away a key opportunity to anchor India’s innings. Moreover, Shubman Gill faced fans’ wrath on social media as they trolled him for not stepping up in challenging conditions.
"The moment conditions became tough for batting, Shubman Gill became his original self. Gone for 8, check his all 100s in tests as all of them came on flat pitches only!! He can fool masses but never me." - @Rajiv1841
"No matter how good player you are, you must not attempt such kind of shot at the beginning of the day with an Angled bat in English conditions. That was horrendous selection from Shubman Gill." - @Navanneett

"Shubman Gill was looking overconfident after defending the ball before it was about to get out. He thought the ball was coming good on my bat. But all this was Shubman Gill's illusion...!!!" - @gurlabhsingh610

Meanwhile, KL Rahul scored yet another half-century and is rebuilding the inning with Rishabh Pant after Gill’s dismissal. India has achieved a 100+ run lead, but the mountain is still steep to climb.
