Chasing a tricky 371 against India on Day 5, England needed a messiah and they found it in the form of opening batter, Ben Duckett who systematically took down the Indian attack with utmost ease. He played a brilliant counter-attacking knock to slam his 6th Test century and second against the Indian team.
Alongside fellow opener, Zak Crawley, he added 188 runs and seemingly took the game away from the Asian giants. In the process, Duckett also reached the milestone of 2500 runs in Test cricket. However, with the 4th innings ton, he joined an elite list where only a handful of English players have registered their name.
Duckett attains massive feat with 4th innings century
As per Cricbuzz, this was the first time since 2010 that an English opener slammed a century in the 4th innings of a Test match. The last batter to attain this feat was Alastair Cook, who hammered a ton Vs Bangladesh in Mirpur.
Since the last 15 years, many openers have played for England but none have been able to register a fourth innings century in Tests and Duckett now enters an elite list alongside the great Alastair Cook.
Duckett's excellent track record against India in Tests
The maverick English opener has had a stellar Test record against India. In 8 matches against the Indian side in red-ball cricket, Ben Duckett has registered 548 runs and has two centuries to his name as his love-affair continued against them in Headingley, Leeds.
Why Duckett relishes playing Vs India?
The Indian bowlers tend to bowl at his strengths and hence, the batter relishes playing against him. Even during the ongoing Test match, the Indian bowlers bowled wide length delveries and this allowed the English opener to toy with them.
