Dhawan Anchors, Pathan Explodes as India Champions post 203/4
India Champions got off to a flying start after being asked to bat first, with Robin Uthappa smashing a blistering 21-ball 37 and added 57 runs for the first wicket in the first five overs alongside Shikhar Dhawan. While Dhawan began cautiously, he picked up pace and anchored the innings as wickets fell around him.
Australia pulled things back in the middle overs with a tight spell from Steve O’Keefe, while Dan Christian picked up two wickets as well. However, a late assault from Dhawan and Yusuf Pathan changed the tempo and India Champions finished with 203 for 4 at the end of 20 overs. Dhawan remained unbeaten on 91 off 60, while Pathan hammered 52 from just 23 balls.
Ferguson Shines with Fifty in Thrilling Chase
Chasing 204, Chris Lynn came out firing, smashing 25 off just 10 balls before Harbhajan Singh cleaned him up. Despite the early breakthrough, the Australians kept the momentum, scoring briskly at nearly 10 per over. However, Piyush Chawla’s arrival in the sixth over broke the rhythm, triggering a collapse.
Chawla’s fiery spell earned him three quick wickets, reducing Australia to 65 for 4. Dan Christian and Callum Ferguson rebuilt with a vital 90-run partnership. Ferguson went on to score a gritty half-century, while Ben Cutting’s explosive 15 off 6 kept the chase alive. With 13 needed in the final over, Ferguson and Rob Quiney’s crucial hits sealed victory with one ball remaining.
