The Joburg Super Kings (JSK) lost its sixth toss in a row this SA20 2025-26 season, with their latest failure occurring against MI Cape Town in match number 20 of the competition at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. With five straight toss defeats, JSK captain Faf du Plessis tried his luck by bringing in teammate Donovan Ferreira at the pre-match coin ceremony at the venue.

However, the move did little to break JSK’s toss curse, as Ferreira too watched the coin fall the wrong way, with MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan winning the toss and opted to bat first.

Faf du Plessis pulls off daring experiment, fails at it in hilarious SA20 toss

JSK captain Faf du Plessis brought his teammate Donovan Ferreira for the toss before his team’s home SA20 2025-26 match against Rashid Khan’s MI Cape Town. Aiming to reverse JSK’s curse with the toss this season, even Ferreira failed to make the right call as the coin once again fell in favour of the opposition skipper.

As it happened, Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first. His MI Cape Town openers responded strongly to their captain’s call, as both Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton raced to a 100-run partnership for the first wicket in less than nine overs.

JSK’s cursed toss journey in SA20 2025-26

The JSK franchise started off its SA20 2025-26 campaign with a match against Pretoria Capitals a couple of weeks ago. Faf du Plessis and co. subsequently faced the Durban’s Super Giants in home and away fixtures over the next five days.

While JSK won each of their first three games of the season, Faf du Plessis lost the toss on each occasion. The former South African captain also lost the toss against MI Cape Town on January 6, against Paarl Royals on January 8 before losing the toss to the MI Cape Town again in the recent incident.

Despite losing six tosses in a row, the Faf du Plessis-led JSK franchise is still ranked second on the SA20 2025-26 points table with a formidable NRR of 1.219.
