England star opener Ben Duckett has been in phenomenal form lately, and he truly stole the show in his Champions Trophy debut against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium on February 22. The talented batter smashed his third ODI century, making a strong statement with his outstanding performance.

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first, hoping to put England under pressure early. At first, their strategy seemed to work when they dismissed Phil Salt quickly, giving Australia a solid start.

Duckett and Root Turn the Game Around

Soon after, Ben Dwarshuis added to England’s troubles by sending Jamie Smith back to the pavilion for just 15 runs. At that point, Australia seemed to have the upper hand. However, England quickly bounced back thanks to a fantastic partnership between Ben Duckett and Joe Root. The duo steadied the innings and began to dominate the Australian bowlers.

In the 32nd over, Duckett’s class was on full display as he reached his third ODI century in style. His aggressive strokeplay under pressure made him the standout performer of the match.

Duckett brought up his hundred with back-to-back boundaries, marking his second century against Australia and becoming the first English batter to score a century on their Champions Trophy debut—an incredible achievement.

As he reached his milestone, Duckett took off his helmet and raised his bat, acknowledging the applause and standing ovation from his teammates. His century came off a stunning shot—a short ball banged in on the stumps, which he confidently slapped past the bowler for a boundary.

England in Command Against Australia

At the time of writing, England are in a commanding position at 219 for 4 in 34 overs, with Duckett leading from the front.
