In another World Cup classic, England women registered an unbelievable victory over India women by just four runs. On the back of Heather Knight's 109, England scored 288, after which they defended their score as they kept India women to just 284 in the end.

Here, we take a look at the highlights of the 20th match of the ongoing Women's World Cup 2025 between India Women and England Women, as it unfolded at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Heather Knight puts up a scintillating show as England muster 288

England's women’s team won the toss and opted to bat first in Indore, where their openers, Tammy Beaumont and wicket-keeper Amy Jones, stitched an outstanding 73-run partnership for the first wicket, following which Beaumont fell for 42, courtesy of Deepti Sharma.

However, Jones kept her mojo, as she went on to score 56 off 68 deliveries with eight boundaries. England lost its second wicket on 98 runs after 21.1 overs, following which the duo of Heather Knight and skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt took over. After this, England lost their third wicket on 211, as Brunt became the third victim for 38.

Nonetheless, on the other end, Knight played a sensational 109-run knock off 91 deliveries, where she struck 15 magnificent boundaries and a maximum. After Heather Knight’s departure in the 45th over, England managed to gather some crucial runs at the back end, as they recorded a mammoth total of 288 for eight after the conclusion of their 50 overs.

Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, as she picked up 4-51 in her 10 overs, while Sree Charani bagged two. Apart from them, the rest of the bowling lineup turned out to be fruitless.

Smriti, Harmanpreet and Deepti gather fifties but England keep their nerve in the final over

Chasing 289 for victory, India had a poor start, losing opener Pratika Rawal in the third over with just 13 runs on the board. Following this, Harleen Deol became the second victim for 24 when India only had 42 runs on the board.

Then, the duo of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur joined hands and went on a batting spree, taking the score to 167, when Harmanpreet lost her wicket for 70 in the 31st over.

Soon after Kaur’s dismissal, Smriti Mandhana, along with Deepti Sharma, kept finding boundaries. Mandhana became England’s fourth victim, having 88 runs after her name, as she lost her wicket at the very wrong time after facing 94 deliveries.

After Mandhana’s wicket, India were in trouble, and Deepti Sharma pulled her hand up with 50 under pressure off 57 deliveries, but she too lost her wicket in the 47th over, after which it started to turn in England's favour.

While Richa Ghosh couldn’t do much with just eight. After Deepti’s wicket, Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana, who were looking to chase 27 in the last three overs, failed, as England registered a classic victory by just four runs in the end.

Amanjot’s 18* and Rana’s 10* didn’t help their cause, as India could only reach as far as 284 for six after the conclusion of their 50 overs.

Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt gathered two wickets, while almost every other bowler picked a scalp in this game. The game went right down to the wire as the Three Lionesses stole a victory from India's jaws, right when the home side were at the top of the game.

Gathering a few crucial wickets in the middle helped them massively, as the Women in Blue succumbed to massive pressure.

Thanks to this victory, England women have now qualified for the semi-finals, while India’s journey to the knockouts has become tougher.
