The reigning champions, England, find themselves in a dire situation in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Adding to their woes, they suffered a humiliating batting collapse against Sri Lanka at the renowned M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, known for favouring batters.

Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka, but it proved to be a disastrous choice as they were bowled out for a meagre 156 runs in 10 overs. Notably, this marks the lowest score England has ever posted against Sri Lanka in World Cup history.

England made a promising start in their innings, with openers Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow forming a 48-run partnership for the opening wicket. However, the departure of Dawid Malan in the 6.3rd over opened the floodgates, and wickets began to tumble.

The highest run-scorer for England in the game was the all-rounder Ben Stokes, who managed 43 runs from 73 balls. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan chipped in with 30 and 28 runs, but the other batters seemed to be off their game.

Currently, England is teetering on the edge of their fourth loss in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, with three defeats out of four matches played so far in the tournament. If they succumb to Sri Lanka in this game, their chances of making it to the semifinals will significantly diminish.
