The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Wednesday, October 25 announced Amol Muzumdar as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team.

Muzumdar is no stranger to coaching, having previously worked with national teams, including South Africa, and having been a part of the Rajasthan Royals.

Amol Muzumdar, who won several Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai and later represented Assam and Andhra Pradesh also held the position of head coach for the Mumbai Ranji team until the 2022–2023 domestic season.

In December, Ramesh Powar was relieved of his head coaching responsibilities for the Indian women's cricket team, leaving the head coaching position for the team vacant.

In the interim, former Indian all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar assumed the responsibility of coaching the team.

Amol Muzumdar conveyed his appreciation and enthusiasm, expressing his eagerness to spend time with the Indian women's cricket team and work with them to reach new heights.

Here’s what the newly appointed head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team said:

"I am deeply honoured and privileged to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for placing their trust in me and believing in my vision and the roadmap for Team India."

"This is a huge responsibility and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel. The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled in the period. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed.”

Meanwhile, the absence of a head coach didn't deter the Indian women's cricket team from securing a historic gold at the Asian Games. Now, Muzumdar will carry the expectations of guiding the Women in Blue to their coveted ICC title next year.
