India were in deep trouble on day three of the fourth Test when spinner Washington Sundar was introduced into the attack, as he made an immediate impact with two strikes. However, the decision to introduce Sundar late into the attack was not taken kindly by fans, who bashed skipper Shubman Gill on social media.

Social Media Goes On A Rampage Against Skipper Shubman Gill

After India put up 358 runs on the board, England had a solid start to the innings, piling up runs in their first innings with a 166-run partnership for the first wicket. Following which, they continued the momentum as the duo of Ollie Pope and Joe Root built an outstanding partnership for the third wicket.

However, most of the blame could be given to skipper Shubman Gill, who delayed introducing spinner Washington Sundar, as he was brought into the attack in the 69th over of the English innings and made his presence felt.

England, who were cruising at one stage, lost two wickets in the form of Ollie Pope and Harry Brook in the 77th and 81st overs, courtesy of Sundar, who bowled excellent lines on this track. Sundar only took a few deliveries to turn the fortune in India's favour.

Thanks to Gill's blunder, England kept themselves in the game and gathered a lead in the first innings.

Nonetheless, the fans on social media didn't take it kindly, as they trashed Shubman Gill, the skipper, for introducing Sundar this late on a track where he could have generated more spin and caused the home side much more trouble.

"Shubman Gill or the team management seem to have forgotten that they also have a bowler named Washington Sundar in the team - and Washy has certainly embarrassed them almost immediately." - @C4CRICVENKATESH

"Sundar took 2 wickets already but we didn't bowl them till like 60th over? Nice. I guess Gill has already peaked as captain in 2nd Test." - @SangwanHQ

"Brainless Shubman Gill waited till 69th over to give Washington Sundar a go & now he is looking the most dangerous among all Indian bowlers. And this after Washi bowled a match-changing spell in last match. Horrible & clueless captaincy." - @Vipul_Espeaks

By the time of writing, England made a starring comeback with 424 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets after the end of 99 overs while having a lead of 96 runs, with Joe Root still batting on 116*. Whereas Sundar, at this time, had completed 11 overs for 30 runs and had already picked two crucial wickets.
