Delhi Capitals’ Ashutosh Sharma has made an impressive debut in English club cricket. Just hours after arriving in the UK, he played his first match for Wigan Cricket Club and scored a blazing century off just 70 balls.
Ashutosh Sharma Smashes Century On Day Of Arrival
Ashutosh, who joined Wigan for the 2025 season of the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, faced Formby Cricket Club on May 31. Wigan was in trouble early, losing 3 wickets for just 17 runs. Batting at number five, Ashutosh walked in and completely changed the game.
He teamed up with opener Aveen Dalugod to build a massive 153-run partnership in just over 23 overs. Ashutosh played aggressively, hitting 8 fours and 6 sixes, ending with a strike rate of nearly 137. He reached his century in only 70 balls but was dismissed shortly after for exactly 100 runs in the 34th over. His wicket led to another collapse, as Wigan stumbled from 170/3 to 195/7 by the 41st over.
What’s even more impressive is that Ashutosh had just landed in England the same morning. He came fresh from the IPL season, where he had a solid run.
Bought by DC for ₹3.8 crore, he scored 204 runs in the 2025 season with a strong strike rate of 160.62. One of his standout moments came in DC’s first win, where he hit a quick 66 off 31 balls to help win the match in the final over.
Although DC didn’t make it to the playoffs, it gave Ashutosh the chance to play in England. In his career so far, he has played 14 List A matches, 44 T20s, and 8 first-class games. While he hasn’t yet scored a hundred in white-ball professional cricket, he has a first-class top score of 123.
Ashutosh isn't the only Indian making waves in English club cricket this summer. Wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat, who wasn’t picked in the 2025 IPL, joined Dulwich Cricket Club and also impressed with 134 runs on his debut.
