Prithvi Shaw Set To Join Ruturaj Gaikwad In Maharashtra After NOC Approval From Mumbai

Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents, is set to begin a new chapter with Maharashtra according to reports after securing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The move comes after a rough phase for the opener, who was dropped from the Mumbai squad midway through the 2024-25 season on fitness grounds.

Prithvi Shaw Battles the Ghosts of Lost Potential

Shaw, who first made headlines with a stunning fourth-innings century on debut for Mumbai in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy semifinal, later translated that promise into international success, scoring a century on his Test debut for India in 2018.

However, his career has since been marred by a mix of fitness issues and off-field disciplinary concerns. Despite captaining Mumbai to a Vijay Hazare Trophy title in 2020-21, Shaw has struggled to find consistency and was eventually dropped from Mumbai setups in the middle of the 2024-25 season.

To make matters worse Shaw went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction, a complete contrast to his earlier days as a hot future prospect. He didn't even get any of the replacement opportunities later in the tournament.

Prithvi Shaw Eyes Greener Pastures Beyond Mumbai

Nevertheless, Shaw will now look for fresh opportunities beyond Mumbai cricket as he aims to get his career back on track. The potential move to Maharashtra could offer him a much-needed platform to regain form and prove his abilities once again.

MCA secretary Abhay Hadap also confirmed to The Hindu that the MCA has issued the NOC and showed gratitude towards Shaw for his contribution to Mumbai cricket.

“Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” Hadap wrote in a statement.

Shaw and Ruturaj Set to Light Up the Opening Slot for Maharashtra

Notably, Maharashtra Cricket Association is yet to confirm Shaw’s arrival who are also reportedly eyeing a surprise appointment of a head coach. The fans are already excited as Shaw will be a great addition alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top of the order for Maharashtra.

This pairing could not only add firepower to the Maharashtra batting lineup but also provide Shaw with the stability and environment he needs to bring life back to his stagnating career. For Shaw, this shift could mark the beginning of a redemption arc in his career.
