Dubai Capitals and MI Emirates start off their campaign in the second edition of the International League T20 in the UAE with a promising face-off on Saturday (January 20) in Dubai. The opening game will be critical for the teams to make a fresh beginning after the disappointment last season.
While the MI Emirates faltered in Qualifier 2 of the cutthroat six-team competition, the Capitals endured a worse fate and failed to make it to the playoffs. It's an opportunity for the two teams to announce their comeback and gain an early footing in the competition.

Delhi Capitals
The Capitals would be delighted to have the services of their captain and explosive opener, David Warner, for the opening game after doubts emerged over his appearance following the player's return to the BBL for the Sydney Thunder.
Warner will be one of the key players for the Capitals alongside West Indies' power-hitter Rovman Powell and allrounders Dasun Shanaka as well as Sikandar Raza, who makes a quick travel across to Dubai after his international commitment with Zimbabwe in Sri Lanka.
With Joe Root and Mark Wood unavailable, it would be interesting to see how the Capitals fare with their playing XI in the match against the MI Emirates.
MI Emirates
For the Mumbai Indians subsidiary, the biggest absentee will be their SA20 skipper Kieron Pollard, who makes way for fellow West Indies maverick Nicholas Pooran to captain the Emirates side, which will still back itself to come out triumphant considering the overall strength.
No other big-name signing for the Emirates franchise will be skipping the opening game due to commitments elsewhere. In Pollard's absence, Corey Anderson and Dwayne Bravo will be looking after the allrounder's duties while bolstering the power-hitting muscle.
For Indian fans, the return of Ambati Rayudu to competitive cricket will be a source of excitement, as will the comeback of Trent Boult since the ICC World Cup 2023.

DC vs MIEM: Dubai Pitch Report
Dubai tends to make the toss an overly crucial element in T20 matches played at the popular venue. While the track is often a balanced one with its dry squares, the dew that falls at the ground under lights turns chases here into a run-fest for batting sides and a nightmare for the bowlers. Expect a reasonably high-scoring face-off between the Capitals and Emirates franchises where the team batting second will have a definite edge.
