Galle Gladiators open their account with a big victory over Colombo Stars

Galle Gladiators secured a 25-run victory over Colombo Stars in Match 7 of Lanka Premier League 2022 at Pallekele. 

Gladiators post a strong total

Batting first, Thanuka Dabare (36) and skipper Kusal Mendis (39) were impressive to provide a strong start to the Gladiators. The duo added 75 runs for the first wicket in less than nine overs. 

Coming at number three, Lahiru Udara increased the tempo, while Azam Khan (8) and Iftikhar Ahmed (2) perished early. 

Udara finished well with 29 off 16, while Udara slammed an unbeaten 45 off 30 to help Gladiators finish on 174 in their designated quota of 20 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay was the pick of the bowlers for Stars with two scalps. 


Stars fall short 

In reply to the chase, Angelo Mathews (9) and Karim Janat (0) could not provide a good start to the Stars. Furthermore, Charith Asalanka (5) failed as well. 

However, Niroshan Dickwella was up to his task to steer the team on the right path. The experienced Ravi Bopara supported him well by scoring 46 off 35. Then, Dinesh Chandimal tried well with a knock of 16 off 9. 

In the end, Dickwella remained unbeaten on 58 off 44, as Stars could only score 149, and lost by 25 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed and Wahab Riaz were the best performing bowlers with two scalps and an impressive economy.
